- FLOWERS ( of your choice )
- ESSENTIAL OIL
- SPICES OR HERBS
Step – 1
Pluck off the petals from the flowers you have selected. Place it on a tray and add other ingredients- like spices, herbs, leaves, etc of your choice.
Step – 2
Now sprinkle essential oils according to the auroma you want to create.
Step – 3
Dry the flowers separately before preparing the potpourri. Though it is effective you could make it last longer by hanging the flowers upside down in a perforated or net pouch. The flowers normally take 3-4 weeks to dry to be put into use, for making the potpourri. Or you can follow the above step to first put all the ingredients together and then dry it out.
Step – 4
Dry it for about 2 hours in the oven. After sun drying. Be careful not to burn the flowers just make them brittle enough to expel moisture. Take it out from the oven and once again sprinkle a little essential oils over it.
Step – 5
Transfer the mixture to a perforated cloth or a paper bag. Seal the top of the bag with clips. Gently shake the bag several times to let the essential oils mix well.
Step – 6
Keep this bag away from direct sunlight in a dark room and allow it to dry for 4-6 weeks. Remember to shake the bag at regular intervals.
Step – 7
Once the mixture is dried, add some more essential oils to it. Your potpourri is ready to spread fresh fragrance of flowers keeping the inside of your home smelling sweet for a long time.
Over a period of time, if you feel the fragrance has reduced you can add small amounts of essential oils to maintain the fragrance of potpourri.
I had an amazing time making this DIY potpourri which I had been working on from quite sometime. It was a little time taking but in the end the results were pretty cool. You should definitely try this one out.
